Iro Tomesodé 色留袖 is considered a formal Kimono and can be worn to weddings and special ocassions. This Tomesodé has delicate silk embroidery and is hand painted in the Yūzen 友禅 style, a Japanese resist dyeing technique using rice-paste, which may be drawn freehand or applied by stencil, and the the paste keeps the dye areas separated. The technique was named after Miyazaki Yūzen, a famous 17th century fan painter.
Cranes play an important role in Japanese folklore as characters representing sacrifice and loyalty, they are said to live one thousand years and symbolize long life.
