Light Indigo Kimono Monpe Pants
Monpé もんぺ are traditional Japanese work pants with a loose-fitting waistline and cinched ankles. These Monpe pants are made from a combination of Japanese indigo textiles. Japanese Indigo or 藍染 Aizomé is derived from the Persicaria Tinctoria plant, and has long been revered for its beautiful hues and antibacterial properties. From plant to dye, it takes about a year to produce, which includes a fermentation process as well as a chemical reaction with oxygen, which creates the vibrant blue color. Aizomé, which has been perfected since before the 16th century has now become synonymous with Japanese textiles.
The main portion is indigo-dyed chambray factory remnant from Okayama, a region famous for Japanese indigo denim. The pockets and hems are made from an antique Kimono with the Asanoha pattern, a traditional motif representing the hemp leaf.
Cotton/ Silk
Hand wash separately in cold water. Hang or lay flat to dry. Indigo is a natural dye, and may bleed slightly in the first few washes. Darker indigo will also rub off with friction so please take care to avoid prolonged contact with lighter fabrics.
Each pair is made to order. Available in sizes Small to XX Large. Please refer to the last slide for garment measurements. The elastic is meant to be cut slightly smaller than actual waist size. If you would like to have the elastic length adjusted, simply email your waist measurement after you place your order. Should the waist elastic need to be replaced or adjusted in the future, it is easily accessible from a discreet opening on the waistband.
Ships in two to three weeks.
