This tote is made from an antique Maru Obi 丸帯. Maru Obi is the most formal and luxurious type of Obi, distinguished by its single piece of fabric, patterned on both sides with heavy brocade. They are no longer typically worn having been replaced by Fukuro Obis, but are occasionally worn by performers or sometimes Geishas.
The lining of the tote is made in the Kinchaku style - a traditional drawstring purse. The handles are made from Obi Jime, which are hand woven silk cords that are tied over the Obi for security and decoration.
