Shibori 絞り is a traditional Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces distinctive patterns on textiles. The earliest known example of cloth dyed with a Shibori technique dates from the 8th century. Each dot is tied by hand before the textile is dipped in dye—then each dot is untied manually. A process that can take several weeks.
