This cropped jacket is made from an antique Maru Obi 丸帯 - the most formal and luxurious type of Obi, distinguished by its single piece of fabric, patterned on both sides with heavy silk brocade. They are no longer typically worn having been replaced by Fukuro Obis, but are occasionally worn by performers or sometimes Geishas. Taiko is the Japanese word for drum, used for traditional ceremonies and performances. Tailored fit with fine hand finished details.
