Tsumugi 紬 yarns are made from irregular-shaped cocoons called Kuzumayu, which were once considered not fit for spinning even, fine silk threads. Compared to the shine of ordinary silk fabric, Tsumugi has a matte surface. Containing naturally formed slubs, Tsumugi yarns are durable, yet lightweight. Although Tsumugi was once thought of as a sub-par textile, it is now highly sought after by Japanese Kimono connoisseurs.
