This jacket is made from a patchqork combination of antique Kurume Kasuri Kimonos. 久留米絣 Kurume Kasuri is a traditional technique that dates back over 200 years has been handed down over the generations. As recognition of the historical and artistic value of the technique, the national government designated Kurume Kasuri as an important intangible cultural property in 1957.
Aizomé 藍染 or Japanese Indigo is derived from the Persicaria Tinctoria plant, and has long been revered for its beautiful hues and antibacterial properties. From plant to dye, it takes about a year to produce, which includes a fermentation process. Different shades of blue are produced by adjusting the fermentation time. Aizomé, which has been perfected since before the 16th century has now become synonymous with Japanese textile design.
This jacket cut like an oversized shirt. Fits up to US Men’s L or Women’s 2XL. Because of the dropped sleeves, this jacket can can also be worn by smaller sizes as an oversized jacket.
