These asymmetrical trousers are made from a combination of two Tsumugi Kimono silks. The striped side is indigo-dyed. Tsumugi 紬 yarns are made from irregular-shaped cocoons called Kuzumayu, which were once considered not fit for spinning even, fine silk threads. Compared to the shine of ordinary silk fabric, Tsumugi has a matte surface. Containing naturally formed slubs, Tsumugi yarns are durable, yet lightweight. Historically, Tsumugi was worn by farmers, samurai and merchants as casual wear. Although Tsumugi was once thought of as a sub-par textile, it is now highly sought after by Japanese Kimono connoisseurs.
Each pair is made to order. Please refer to the last slide for garment measurements. The elastic is meant to be cut slightly smaller than actual waist size. If you would like to have the elastic length adjusted, simply email your waist measurement after you place your order. Should the waist elastic need to be replaced or adjusted in the future, it is easily accessible from a discreet opening on the waistband.
