This cardigan style jacket is made from a vintage Tsumugi Kimono. The patterns are created from a hand weaving process called Kasuri 絣. Kasuri is a term for textiles that have been woven with threads that are dyed specifically to create patterns in the fabric as they come together in the weaving process. It requires a tremendous amount of planning as threads have to be pre-painted exactly to achieve the final pattern. It’s characterized by slightly blurred or brushed appearance, the beautiful mark of imperfections in hand-weaving.
The design features the Asanoha motif. 麻の葉 read “Asa no ha” means leaf of hemp. It is an ancient Japanese motif that is common in textile design, ceramics as well as woodwork such as intricate Kumiko. As hemp is a strong plant that grows quickly, Asanoha represents resilience and growth.Features two patch pockets and an extra wide collar that can be folded open for extra coverage.
