The weave is called Chirimen 縮緬 a traditional Japanese weaving technique developed in the late 16th century. The weft threads are tighter than the warp threads during weaving process, which gives the fabric unique texture. This particular chirimen is lightweight and suited for warmer weather.

Furisodé Kimono are the most decadent type of Kimono worn by unmarried women on formal occasions. The Kanji for Furisodé #振袖 literally translates to shake/ swing and sleeves. Furisodé Kimonos are often brightly colored with gold accents, and the long sleeves swing round and round as the woman walks, a clear advertisement that she is available for marriage.
