This clutch is made from an antique Maru Obi. Maru Obi are traditionally the most formal type of Obi. Written 丸帯, it literally means circular/round/loop belt, because it is formed from one strip of textile folded in two, so the front and back are both covered in embroidery, which makes them very heavy. In recent decades, the Maru Obi have been replaced by Fukuro Obi for their lighter weight. However, Maru Obi are still worn in the most special occasions, such as in bridal Kimono ensembles.

The Obi features cranes, which play an important role in Japanese folklore as characters representing sacrifice and loyalty. They are said to live one thousand years and symbolize long life.

The clutch is lined with a colorful contrasting cotton and features gold zipper and hardware. Generously sized to fit large cell phones and wallets.
