Blue Cranes Furisode Kimono Dress (Small)

$450.00

This dress is made from a vintage Furisode Kimono. Furisodé Kimono are the most decadent type of Kimono worn by unmarried women on formal occasions. The Kanji for Furisodé #振袖 literally translates to shake/ swing and sleeves. Furisodé Kimonos are often brightly colored with gold accents, and the long sleeves swing round and round as the woman walks, a clear advertisement that she is available for marriage.

The design features chrysanthemum flowers and cranes. Cranes play an important role in Japanese folklore as characters representing sacrifice and loyalty, they are said to live one thousand years and symbolize long life. The skirt displays the Genji Guruma 源氏車 carriages used by aristocrats of the Heian era named after a famous novel of the time called The Tale of Genji.

This dress features a round neckline, 1/4 sleeves, darts on upper bodice, a seven paneled princess seam skirt, and a hidden back zip.
